Right from the moment he harvested the grapes from Mate's Vineyard in 2004 Michael Brajkovich thought this wine would be special. The pristine quality of the grapes and their flavours made a wine that is arguably the best Mate's Vineyard Chardonnay they have produced to date. Mate's Vineyard is always set apart from the Kumeu River Chardonnay with its lifted sweet fruit aroma that is akin to pears. On the palate we see the extra concentration, and length of flavour but the wine still seems more refined and taut than the Kumeu River Chardonnay. Certainly a wine that will benefit from bottle age of 4-6 years.
